Flat roof and Winter checks

Flat roof problems are often evident in winter. It’s because sitting water can often freeze and then expand, causing cracks to get bigger and then water to seep into the fabric of the house.

One thing that is worth doing is to get a check done on your flat roof before the worst of the winter weather comes in. Quite often, wear and tear can be seen before it causes a problem and a patch can be applied to any problem areas.

This sorts out any bigger problems occurring, particularly by paintwork and walls getting damaged if the flat roof is over an interior area, such as a porch.

If you want a flat roof check in the Reading area then let me know and I’ll pop round.

I can do repairs as well as new flat roofs, so whatever you might need eventually, I can make it happen.

Best Flat Roof Company in Reading?

When you choose a flat roof repair company you are either going to choose someone on recommendation or you are probably going to look online and make a decision based on price.

I always think that you should actually meet the person who is going to fix your roof before you make any decisions.

You see, gut instinct rarely lets me down when I make a decision and most of my clients pick me based on gut instinct. Sometimes I am cheaper than others and sometimes I am more. But when I ask why I was chosen, my clients always say, “Carl, we just felt you were the right person for the job”.

After 20 years of fixing flat roofs, I have made a lot of friends in Tilehurst and Reading and I hope that gut instinct will continue to play a part in me getting more work.

Of course, my work is guaranteed, I do it all myself without subcontracting and I will do a good job.

If your gut instinct tells you I am the right man for the job, then use my £47 money off voucher when you call me to get a quote or for me to visit.

How to choose a good flat roof company in Reading, Tilehurst, Caversham and Earley

First things first. The main problem about choosing the right flat roof or company is finding out why the roof is leaking in the first place.

Lots of Reading flat roofs are too flat and they are saggy in the middle, which means you get a pond effect and this water then eventually finds its way in through the smallest of holes.

A “flat” roof should be a gradient of 1-in-80, for rainwater to run-off, and have a decking of marine or WBP plywood.

Reinforced torch-on felt is my personal preference for the covering because when it is applied properly it can have a 50 year life expectancy. EPDM rubber might not last this long because it hasn’t been proven yet….and it’s often just used to go over a leaky roof as a sticking plaster – not good!

Building Regulations state a flat roof being re-covered must simultaneously be insulated to the current standard. The best way of doing this is to employ a roofing contractor registered with one of the government’s “self-certification” schemes.

Roofing repairs in Reading, Tilehurst, Caversham, Earley, Calcot, Southcote

I get asked quite a lot to mend flat roofs and put new ones on in the local area. Just to let you know, if you are in any area around Reading I am happy to come and offer my time to do a quote.

Sometimes I think people are shy to ask someone in Tilehurst to quote for a job in Caversham Heights…but please don’t be. A flat roof will take between 1 day and 5 days to install in general, depending on the weather and the size of the job, so a short 20 minute drive for me to come and see and give you an estimate is really a small part of my service!

The main thing to remember when getting a quote is that everyone will probably charge you a different amount, so you really need to know that everything will be taken care of in your quote, including VAT, taking away the rubbish etc.

Flat roof company Reading – advice for checking your roof

As a flat roof company we often get a call from someone asking us if it is possible for someone to repair their own flat roof.

The answer to this question is yes providing you know exactly what to do…

However, knowing what to do is where being an expert generally helps!

For example, the first problem an amateur may have is falling through a flat roof because the leak has caused the boards to rot away over time!

The timbers may not be strong enough to hold your weight, even if you walk on boards you have put up to help spread your load. So this is the first thing to worry about.

Secondly, you may not be able to find the leak. Just because you have found out where the wall or ceiling is wet or damp, it doesn’t mean you know where the leak is.

Thirdly, you may not have the skills to use bitumen and the lit gas burner to repair your roof! (I’m not joking!)

Unless you are a very experienced DIY expert, I’d recommend getting an expert roofer in to have a look at your problem. Even if you don’t choose me to fix your flat roof in Reading, I can always take a  quick look and advise you on what your outcome might be if you do it yourself. (Of course I’ll leave you with a quote too, just in case you want to save yourself the time and hassle of doing it!).

Adding a Skylight to a new flat Roof in Reading

New Flat Roof – Get Skylights For Added Light

Your new or repaired flat roof might benefit from a domed skylight.

After all, if you are having some work done, you may as well improve things if you can, at the same time…because it will save you money.

A new flat roof can always be improved with a Skylight

Natural daylight isn’t always what comes to mind when you are thinking about a new flat roof but having a skydome installed is a sure fire way to improve your home.

Natural light is better for you than artificial light. It makes a house warmer, brighter and more livable.

So always consider a Skydome included in your quote from me if you would like this option.

Carl Clarke, Flat Roofing Systems For Reading and Tilehurst.

Best roofing company in Reading and Tilehurst areas

Dear reader,

That’s right, you will feel our flat roof systems are the best you have ever seen. You see we are specialists at repairing flat roofs and installing new flat roof systems. We don’t do building repairs, odd jobs or driveways. We are the experts. You wouldn’t go to a GP to do your brain surgery  – so don’t go to anyone other than a flat roof specialist to fix your flat roof.

“But My Flat Roof Doesn’t Leak At The Moment!” Looks aren’t everything. It’s true that a flat roof does not need much maintenance. But there’s the great British weather which can easily cause problems e.g. snow, frost and rain. Eventually small holes created in the roof will cause water to penetrate below, and this often causes severe damage.

My personal guarantee to you;

1.You will feel I install the best Flat roof you have seen!

2.If a leak appears any time in 5 years I will repair it at no cost.
